The Competition

The Pitch Competition engages youth who have an interest in entrepreneurship by making accessible one year process where aspiring entrepreneurs can take the next step on their journey and prepare to  participate in a pitch competition and a business incubation support program. The competition itself draws attention to entrepreneurship as an important pillar of our community by showcasing the young entrepreneurs that have already started on the path of self-employment, job creation and innovation. As part of the competition, startup funding (the number one hurdle for youth) will also draw the attention of those interested in entrepreneurship as the funding will show there is support for their efforts.

The Process

Application and Review

Entrepreneurs must know their business and how to sell it. Experience in completing a business canvas model and being interviewed will grow their interpersonal skills and test their knowledge of their business and ability to articulate its value proposition. To achieve this, we will make a call for applications. Applications will require interested startups to share their business plan, value proposition, revenue model and marketing strategy.

Interested youth must complete an online form and then excel in an interview to move forward in the competition.

Mentorship
Match-up

Entrepreneurship is still undervalued in Sarnia-Lambton, especially events such as Pitch Competitions. To ensure a quality event, we will match the youth-led startups with local mentors to guide them in their preparation for their businesses. Business plan development, financial pro formas, best practices, and additional networking opportunities will enable smooth integration into the business community.

Pitch Deck
Development

Competitors will have access to the College's entrepreneurship department in addition to the dedicated hours from their matched mentor. This foundation will allow competing youth to quickly develop a pitch deck thet will transform how they define their business.
